Manage email, SMS, and notification preferences
General Settings
Give users control over how templates behave by default.
These defaults will be applied to all templates but can be overridden per template.

Consent & Compliance
This is key for GDPR confidence. Consent-aware sending.
When creating templates, users choose a Communication Purpose. This determines consent requirements and unsubscribe behaviour automatically.
Communication Purpose Definitions
Transactional / Admissions
Essential communications that don't require marketing consent.
- Sent regardless of marketing consent
- No unsubscribe link required
- Logged as essential communication
Marketing / Engagement
Promotional content that requires explicit consent.
- Sent only to contacts with marketing consent
- Unsubscribe link automatically included
- Blocked if recipients lack consent
Marketing Type Categories
Configure which marketing categories are available and their consent/unsubscribe requirements. Schools can choose which types require consent and include an unsubscribe link.

When recipients lack marketing consent:
Automatic Unsubscribe Handling
For all Marketing templates, unsubscribe options are automatically included:
- Email: Unsubscribe link injected in footer
- SMS: STOP instruction automatically appended
Allow custom unsubscribe text (advanced)
Let template creators customise the unsubscribe message wording
Opt Back In Request
Send opt back in request emails to contacts
This sends a transactional email (no marketing content) asking recipients who have previously opted out if they'd like to opt back in to receive optional updates such as news, events, or fundraising.

Select contacts to send consent request emails
Select Recipients
Select Workflow Triggers
The consent request will be sent automatically when these workflows trigger.
Application status
Flags
System stores for each response:
- consent_status (opted_in / opted_out)
- Timestamp of response
- Source = "consent request email"
